UFCA is present in the region of Cariri, South of State of Ceará northeast of Brazil, which covers 42 counties and had an estimated population of 1.4 million people in 2014, by the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE). In Cariri Ceará, UFCA campuses are home to the cities of Juazeiro do Norte (headquarters), Crato, Barbalha and Brejo Santo. In the South Center, there is the Icó campus, where the Semi-Arid Studies Institute (Iesa/UFCA) still operates, with a History course (inactive).

These are the campuses where UFCA is present. In these spaces, we have physical infrastructure for academic activities, management, research and services offered for the community (culture and outreach).


Barbalha Campus

First of the UFCA campuses to be implemented, in 2001, the academic unit Faculty of Medicine in Barbalha campus hosts the Medicine Course and eight of the University’s Graduate courses (six of them, Medical Residencies). There is also an outpatient clinic, with 16 specialties, to serve the community (external public) – intermediated by the Central Barbalha Municipal. The campus has 5,179.66 m2 of total area. Brejo Santo Campus

Educator Training Institute (IFE / UFCA) comprises a built area of 2,234.64 m2, is located in the city of Brejo Santo where it hosts six undergraduate courses (Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics, Physics, Interdisciplinary of Natural Sciences and Mathematics, and Pedagogy (NEW 2020). The first one to work, the Interdisciplinary Degree in Natural Sciences and Mathematics (LICN), offers general training in Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and Biology, in at least 3 years. From the fourth semester, students choose to take (or not) one of the specific subjects.


Crato Campus

Inaugurated in November 2011, the UFCA´s Crato campus was the third of the current UFCA campuses to be created. Center for Agrarian Sciences and Biodiversity (CCAB) hosts the Agronomy Course and the Graduate Program in Sustainable Regional Development (Proder / UFCA) – one of the first in the brazilian country linked to sustainability. Its activities take place in a structure with 4,668.96 m2 of built area and 10 hectares dedicated to field activities of experimental crops and creations.


Juazeiro do Norte Campus

The physical structure of the Juazeiro do Norte campus, opened in 2008, currently has a total area of 27,186.93 m2. Originally advanced Universidade Federal do Ceará campus in Cariri operated in the city in temporary spaces provided by the Universidade Regional do Cariri (Urca), in the Pirajá neighborhood. UFCA’s headquarters, the campus is the largest at the University, hosting 15 of the 25 Undergraduate courses at UFCA, six of the 15 Graduate courses and most of the administrative and academic units Center for Applied Social Sciences (CCSA), Center for Science and Technology (CCT) and Interdisciplinary Institute of Society, Culture and Arts (IISCA).


Icó Campus

The third oldest city in Ceará (after Aquiraz and Fortaleza) hosts the Institute for Semi-arid Studies (IESA/UFCA), responsible for the History undergraduate course*. The course was created by the then Superior Council Pro Tempore (Consup / UFCA), in November 2013, and the first classes took place in the second half of 2014.

Distance Education Center (Online Courses) of the Federal University of Cariri (UFCA), located in Icó, a small town located 361.3 km from Fortaleza, was inaugurated in a ceremony at Teatro da Ribeira dos Icós, on the night of this May, 6th 2022. In total, 800 vacancies will be offered by UFCA exclusively in the online modality, through the Unified Selection System (SiSU) which will work in partnership with State University of Ceará (Uece).
