It is a pleasure to receive you in our University. This web site is intended for all international students who will study at the Universidade Federal do Cariri. One of our goals is to acquaint the foreign student with the new environment of social harmony, seeking to answer possible questions before your arrival to facilitate their integration into academic life here. The International Academic Mobility Program for foreign students was created with the goal of providing opportunities for qualification for young people who want to enjoy an intercultural experience, living with the Brazilian reality during a certain period of their university life. This is done by conducting academic and professional experiences in Brazil, given the desire of having an international experience. Foreign students bring with them experiences and perspectives that enrich the campus inside and outside the classroom.
The Metropolitan Cariri (RMC), also known as “Oasis of the hinterland”, is located in the Brazilian state of Ceará. Emerged from the conurbation between the municipalities of Juazeiro do Norte, Crato and Barbalha, then called CRAJUBAR (its name comes from combining the initials of the municipalities mentioned), officially established on June 29, 2009. In addition to them, were included the neighboring towns located in Ceará Cariri: Caririaçu, Farias Brito, Jardim, Missão Velha, Nova Olinda and Santana do Cariri. Its area of influence of the southern region of Ceará and the border between the States of Ceará and Pernambuco, Paraíba and Piauí.
In an area of 5.460 km² Cariri houses a population of 601,000 inhabitants.
Climate
The climate in Juazeiro do Norte is tropical. The winter months are much rainier than the summer months. With pleasant weather Cariri has recorded temperatures ranging from 17º C (62.6º Fahreinheit) in Barbalha in August (considered our winter in the southern hemisphere) and recorded in summer 40º C (104º Fahreinheit) in Juazeiro do Norte in December.

There are numerous options of entertainment, including, bars and restaurants, cines, cultural centers (crafts), theaters, museums, clubs, ecological parks, the paleontological geoparks sites, the Historic Center of Crato, fairgrounds, parks, malls and shopping center, beyond the popular festivals in the region.
Geopark Araripe
Extending over the area of six cities of Ceará: Barbalha, Crato, Juazeiro do Norte, Missão Velha, Nova Olinda and Santana do Cariri, the Geopark Araripe is recognized by UNESCO like a vast biological, geological and paleontological heritage.
Paleontology Museum – Santana do Cariri
Founded in 1985, the Placido Cidade Nuvens Museum houses several groups of fossils found in the Geopark Araripe region. The Museum is maintained by Regional University of Cariri (Universidade Regional do Cariri – URCA)
Cinema
Juazeiro do Norte has one cinema with five rooms that play 3D and 2D movies with original sound in Portuguese or English located in a shopping center.
Shopping Malls
Juazeiro do Norte is home to a shopping center with 144 stores, a movie theater and restaurants that open for lunch and dinner. In addition to it other malls are emerging in the neighborhoods of Juazeiro do Norte.

Cariri Train / VLT do Cariri
Transports passengers between Juazeiro do Norte and Crato. Are 13,6 km long line of nine stations: Fatima, Juazeiro do Norte, São Pedro, Teatro, Antônio Vieira, São Jose, Muriti, Padre Cicero and Crato. Its carrying capacity is 330 passengers per composition. The average speed achieved is 60 km / h. The Metro operates Monday to Friday, from 6 hours to 19 hours and Saturday from 6 hours to 14 hours. The cost of the ticket is R$ 1.00.

City Bus Lines
Urban public transport is operated by three bus companies: the company Bom Jesus do Horto only have lines starting from the center of town to the Horto, which is located in the Statue of Padre Cicero; Two companies are responsible for intermunicipal transportation, connecting Juazeiro to neighboring municipalities Barbalha, Caririaçu, Crato and Missão Velha.

Represented by moto-taxis and vans are very well used by the inhabitants of region. The average cost of passages and topics of public bus is R$ 2,45.
